Linden Kelley’s Birthday Parade
April 27, 2020

Medina resident Lindon Kelley, on the right, enjoys well wishes from close to 200 family, friends and other supporters who paraded by his home in cars on Monday, April 27, to celebrate his 97th birthday. As each car moved up, Lindon Kelley’s second cousin Sandy Vannatter used a bullhorn to announce the names of people in the car who came to offer their birthday wishes.

When the Kelley clan realized they could not take patriarch and Medina resident Lindon Kelley to a family ranch for the traditional shindig for his 97th birthday, something had to be done.

Lindon Kelley’s son and daughter-in-law, David and Carla Kelley, came up with the idea of a car caravan celebration with well-wishers staying in their cars and others practicing social distancing so not to break coronavirus safety rules.

“He (Lindon Kelley) is the oldest man in Medina, and since we all can’t celebrate with a real party, his son and I have organized a drive-by parade,” said Carla Kelley.

She said the cars lined up by the Baptist church in Medina at 9:45 a.m. and then travelled in a parade past Lindon Kelley’s home on Post Oak Street on Monday, April 27, 2020.

The birthday boy got a kick out of the some 60 cars carrying an estimated 150-200 family, friends, admirers and others past his house.

“I am so thankful I could be here to see and enjoy this event,” Lindon Kelley said.
